Contributing to a sustainable future for our planet

Freyssinet is committed to delivering infrastructure solutions responsibly and sustainably and maintaining continual improvement in environmental performance. Our approach is reinforced by an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001:2015 and a PAS 2080:2023 aligned Carbon Management System, ensuring robust governance, continual improvement, and transparent carbon management across all our activities. We also have a Carbon Reduction Plan, which details our organisational carbon footprint and our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050, in accordance with PPN 06/21.

Act for the climate

Direct emissions

In line with our Carbon Management Policy and PAS 2080 certification, Freyssinet considers opportunities to manage and reduce emissions where this is reasonably practicable. Our actions include:

  • Reducing fuel and electricity consumption through efficiency improvements and behavioural change
  • Accelerating the transition to electric and hybrid company vehicles
  • Improving energy efficiency at sites, workshops, warehouses, and offices
  • Increasing the use of non‑fossil and renewable energy sources

Our current target is to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, from a 2021 baseline.

Indirect emissions

Recognising the significance of supply chain emissions, Freyssinet adopts a collaborative PAS 2080 approach to managing indirect emissions, including:

  • Reducing the use of materials where possible
  • Using low carbon materials and designs
  • Purchasing locally to reduce transportation
  • Collaborating with the supply chain to find low carbon materials, equipment and transportation methods
  • Providing maintenance to increase the life of aging infrastructure
  • Developing materials which are more climate resilient and have a longer design life

We aim to reduce Scope 3 emissions by at least 20% by 2030, in alignment with national infrastructure and VINCI Group carbon objectives.

Preserving natural environments and biodiversity

Circular economy

We safeguard nature at our production sites by:

  • Improving our environmental management plans
  • Increasing environmental awareness in our workforce and subcontractors via Toolbox Talks and training events
  • Preventing pollution and protecting water, land, and air quality
  • Developing water reduction and water re-use solutions
  • Restoring sites after works

We also work with the communities around our offices and production sites, carrying our practical conservation activities and improving local environments.

Environmental and carbon reduction objectives are reviewed annually, with oversight by the Senior Leadership Team. Performance is monitored through our certified management systems, ensuring continual improvement and alignment with ISO 14001, PAS 2080, client sustainability requirements.

Sustainable technologies for our clients

We proactively assess our operations to identify key sources of greenhouse gas emissions and engage with employees, clients, suppliers and the public to raise awareness of the climate emergency.

Our goal is to be as responsible as possible at our worksites, workshops and offices, but also to help our clients reduce the whole life carbon of infrastructure projects.

Protecting the health and safety of everyone on site is at the heart of everything we do

At Freyssinet UK, safety runs through everything we do. We are committed to ensuring every person who steps onto our sites - whether they wear our logo or not, goes home safe. That is not a target. That is our promise. We plan with care, act with discipline, and hold ourselves to the highest standards set by UK law and beyond. Our integrated management system drives continuous improvement and full compliance, because zero harm is not just an ambition - it is an expectation on every project, every day.

at all times

The ‘zero accident’ objective applies to all personnel working on our sites, whether they are Freyssinet employees, temporary staff or subcontractors.

  • Freyssinet’s Golden Rules must be respected at all our sites and when travelling: safety briefing, use of personal protective equipment, conditions for using the telephone, working at height, etc.
  • Technical safety standards for high‑risk activities, including working at height, working near traffic, lifting operations, and the use of electrical equipment.
  • Safety managers integrated into operational management at all levels of the organisation (Group, Zone, BU and jobsite), providing advice and technical expertise, identifying risks, and supporting the resolution of safety‑related issues.

To actively involve employees, a range of tools and routines are used throughout the life of our projects:

  • Safety in Design – Safety is part of the R&D objectives. When we submit tenders, we also detail its integration into our clients’ projects and the conditions for its implementation.
  • PreTask meetings – The operating procedures defined by the design and construction engineers are finalised with the site management and shared with the teams.
  • PreStart meetings – A briefing takes place every day, before each shift to identify any discrepancies between what has been planned and the site conditions, to agree on any risks and their control.

  • STOP Authority – All employees have both the right and the responsibility to stop any activity if they believe safety conditions are not met. They must immediately inform their manager, without fear of sanction.
  • Managerial safety visits – Regularly carried out on site, site visits support monitoring, encourage open dialogue, and contribute to continuous safety improvement.

Targeted training

expansion joint training for the team on A40 westway

Every new Freyssinet UK employee begins their journey with us through safety. Each person receives a tailored training plan built around their specific role and needs, ensuring they are equipped, confident, and prepared from day one.

This is strengthened further through shared experiences such as our annual Safety Week – bringing our people together to learn, reflect, and reinforce the culture that defines how we work.

As those primarily responsible for safety, managers are expected to lead by example and demonstrate commitment and proactive behaviour.

All employees are required to read, understand, acknowledge, and apply their roles and responsibilities. Operational managers are trained to manage unforeseen events and to embed safety into the necessary trade‑offs between quality, deadlines, costs, and risks.

Site supervisors are taught to integrate safety aspects as far upstream as possible in the construction process. Emphasis is placed on the implementation of safety by site managers.

Safety culture

HS2 PT training

The sharing of good practices is actively encouraged. Potentially serious events (HiPOs) are systematically reviewed through structured debriefs involving the employees concerned and their management, supporting learning, transparency and continuous improvement.

Employee trust is essential. At Freyssinet UK, we promote a fair culture built on openness, accountability and respect, which underpins our approach to safety and the workplace. All employees are encouraged to speak up about risks or incidents, supporting learning, continuous improvement and shared responsibility at every level of the organisation.

At Freyssinet UK, health and safety is more than compliance – they are part of who we are.

Built through trust and honest conversation, every person feels responsible for safety and genuinely valued.

We do not measure our culture by the policies we write, but by the moments our people choose to do the right thing – not because they have to, but because they want to. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, every single day.

Our partnership with the VINCI UK Foundation

The VINCI UK Foundation’s mission is to promote social inclusion – supporting charitable initiatives that create opportunities in training, employment, housing, mobility, and leisure.

In the UK and Republic of Ireland, VINCI businesses, including VINCI Concessions, VINCI Energies UK & RoI, VINCI Construction UK, VINCI Facilities, Belfast International Airport, Soletanche Bachy, Freyssinet, Gatwick Airport, Ringway and NUVIA UK – are proud contributors. Since its inception in 2016, the Foundation has assisted a total of 289 charities and community projects with nearly £1.6 million in grants.

Each year, Freyssinet employees are encouraged to nominate local charities and non-profits for support from the VINCI UK Foundation. Successful causes receive a financial donation plus practical support from the nominee and other Freyssinet employees.

I am proud of the work we do to support local communities. We’re able to make a real difference to improve the environment and facilities near our worksites and leave a legacy for future generations.

We are committed to improving gender diversity across Freyssinet and the wider construction industry. By promoting visible female role models and encouraging inclusive career pathways, we continue to work towards increasing female representation across our business.

At Freyssinet UK, progress is evident in workforce diversity, with women representing 18% of employees and 24% of managers, 25% of colleagues from non‑UK nationalities, and 90% of employees confirming an inclusive working environment.

Looking ahead to 2026, the focus remains on developing skills, career pathways, and technical capability across core and emerging areas, strengthening early careers, advancing equality, diversity and inclusion, and using employee feedback to ensure Freyssinet remains a place where people can thrive and perform at their best.
